Charles Wilson, a reporter for Associated Press, informs the public in his article titled, "Deadly blast devastates Indianapolis neighborhood," on November 11, 2012 that there has been a blast that has left an Indianapolis neighborhood in ruins.

On November 10, 2012, late Saturday night, a blast caused chaos in a quiet, Indianapolis neighborhood. The cause of the blast has not yet been discovered, though some residents have stated that, "[they] thought a plane had crashed or that it was an earthquake." These assumptions may have been brought on due to the loud sound that occurred, followed by houses collapsing. As of now, investigators are trying to locate the cause of the blast. A meth lab explosion has been ruled out, but investigators are searching for any other possible causes.

According to Adam Collins, the Deputy Code Enforcement Director, "the explosion damaged a total of 80 homes." Not only were the 80 homes included in the damage, but also 31 homes were so badly damaged that they will have to be demolished. It is a difficult and depressing situation for the residents of this Indianapolis neighborhood, the blast came from nowhere and most have now lost their homes and belongings.

There have been two killed from the blast, along with seven people who experienced other injuries. Kenny Bacon, Deputy Fire Chief, reported that, "everyone else was accounted for." The survivors of the blast were evacuated from the scene and taken to a nearby church, where they were provided with essentials. Unfortunately, the two deceased people have not yet been identified.

This news article astonished me because of the fact that we have not yet found the cause of the blast. Although investigators are working hard, it is difficult not to think of the worst possible causes, such as a terrorist attack. It also is devastating to think of the innocent residents who have lost their homes in this mysterious blast. I hope that this situation does not get overshadowed by those being affected by Hurricane Sandy, both need our help to get back on track.

The blast has not only affected the residents of the neighborhood, but also any surrounding areas, who may be scared of another blast occurring. In the following days, the cause of the blast should be identified by the investigators. It is estimated that the damage is worth up to 3.6 million dollars.
